Not that you particularly care, but some things have been happening, good and bad.
I’ve tried finding a boyfriend, went out with a couple guys. Yeah, there are no good guys in this hick town. I can’t wait to get my B.S. and get out of here.
I’m taking summer classes in order to raise my GPA because it’s 0.056 below the minimum for my major. And I’ve decided to change majors from Pre-Vet Med to Zoology :o
I got a second job at Chick-fil-A, but this past Saturday I quit the Mexican restaurant. So, I’m down to one job again. I prefer working at CFA, though.
And, if things continue to go well, it looks like I’ll be able to attend San Diego Comic-con this year after all :) It would have been really depressing if I had to return my tickets :( Plus, I get to hang out with The Nerdiest Kids again :D However, to reduce costs, I’ll be taking a Greyhound bus. The things I do for my hobbies lol
My friend, Troy, and I plus his current roommate, Ricardo, are looking into getting a house or duplex together. Ricardo and I are going house hunting this weekend apparently :O I’ll be bringing my cat Willie down with me to the new place, too :3

Okay, I’m just going to answer all these questions now. Because they are HAUNTING ME and it’s too much pressure to post a comic every time I answer a question. I’ll post a Pokémon Snap comic soon. Today or tomorrow. Depends.

I don’t hate meat. And I don’t deny that it’s delicious. I…
I’m not saying your lifestyle is wrong, or even that you should change, but I’ve found that vegans/vegetarians that have similar reasons as this for choosing this lifestyle don’t really know what they’re talking about or have limited/wrong information on the subject.
Yes, PETA’s videos are true…for those select few processing plants that they choose to show. How many slaughterhouses and processing places are there in the US? Thousands? Tens of thousands? And of those, how many actually mistreat their animals? MAYBE a hundred?
Let me tell you WHY these places can’t be mistreating their animals as much as PETA claims. For one, it’s bad for business. If these animals are raised in a stressful and uncomfortable environment, the meat is bad, tough, tainted; therefore, these companies lose valuable product. So it is in their best interest to make these animals reasonably happy and comfortable for the short year or so before they’re sent to the slaughterhouse. As for mashing up their brethren for food? Yes, it happens, but that’s also a cause of Mad Cow Disease, they discovered this awhile ago. Therefore, it doesn’t happen anymore, or at least not as much. (It probably still happens in some places). Cannibalism with any species leads to brain diseases.
As for genetically modified food, it’s not bad for you. Plants are inbred all the time in the wild. Some plants are even self-fertilizing, how is that for limited genetic material? Plants are genetically modified because their genetics are easier to modify. Plants tend to be unaffected by gene mutation and make do very well with less variety of genes to work with. By tweaking their growth gene, we are able to grow and produce more, therefore feeding more people and animals. Genetically modified food is just as bad/good for you as the organic stuff you’re paying five times as much for. Not that I have anything against organic food, I agree some of it tastes better, but it’s really all the same crap.
Non-Westernized cultures don’t get cancer. They don’t get obese. They don’t get diabetes.
This is so far from true. People DO get cancer, they DO have obesity, and they DO have cases of diabetes. It’s just not as common or widespread as it is in the U.S. I agree that one reason for this is that Americans stuff themselves with all the fast food and crap out there. Another reason, however, is that America (and other western cultures) has cures and/or preventative medicine for A LOT of the major diseases that used to kill people in the past. Why are so many people getting cancer? Diabetes? Heart disease? Because they’re no longer dying from influenza, the common cold, and other now common diseases that can be cured or treated with over-the-counter medicines and a good night’s rest. I agree that much of it is due to most American’s diet and lifestyle, but eating garbage isn’t the only thing that causes those diseases. People in close-to-perfect health get cancer, diabetes, and even heart disease all the time.
Being a vegan/vegetarian is totally your choice and I’m in no place to point fingers and say, “you’re wrong.” Maybe not eating meat is healthier, but you can be just as healthy eating meat as you can be not eating meat. My point is, before you tell people why you chose to live a certain way, please make sure you have all the information and not just go by what you read off some animal activist website and definitely not by what PETA says, they be a bunch-o-crazies. This is in no way an attack on you, or any other vegan/vegetarian, I just kinda wanted to speak my mind on the subject. I love your comics and your blog, btw :)
Grad school
I just finished going through 240 pages of grad schools that offer the program that I want, or something similar to it. TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY. I had no idea so many schools offered it. I’ve narrowed it down to 18 and, hopefully, tomorrow I’ll narrow it down to about 5? Maybe. Somewhere around there.
I’m really leaning towards Chicago or somewhere in California, though. Two out of the 18 are in Canada :o
